How does one truly prepare their self for the ocean?
The minute I caught sight of the ocean, I could tell that this was going to be a great trip…And it was. It was amazing; the sand, the surf, the boardwalk, the sights and the amusement parks. I don’t think anything could have made it better
I had always stayed on the sand at the beach, never one for straying out in the water lest a shark or a strong tide show up, but this time my friends persuaded me to join them in wave diving and “jumping.” It was pretty awesome being out there. And, although it sounds kind of corny, I could feel the ocean..You know? It’s that feeling you get when you can feel the ebb and flow of the tides in your soul…When you realize that there has to be more than just the moon pushing and pulling the waters. The feeling of the salt water stinging the back of my throat, the sound of waves breaking back on the shore and the warm sun above made for a feeling like no other. It was truly spectacular.
The boardwalk was unlike anything I had ever seen or could have imagined. There were more people there – more people talking, laughing, complaining, running, walking, loving, hating – than I had ever seen before. There was probably more to see and do there than there were people, though, and we took a trip to several of the arcades, to a few of the amusement parks and went mini golfing.
And I can’t imagine that I haven’t ever been there before. I can’t imagine that no one else in my family has been as intrigued, mystified and amused by Ocean City Maryland than me. I can’t imagine that I almost didn’t want to go…And I’m so glad that I did.
I was sitting on the beach, reading my book, when I realized that I may never get the opportunity to go anywhere like Ocean City ever again, and it saddened me. I love to travel and meet new people and see new places – and it was right there and then that I decided to grab every opportunity I got to go anywhere. I was going to travel every chance I could this summer, and nothing was going to stop me.
